MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE

Bachelor of Fine Arts degree now available!

Students have the option to choose from our 2 year Associate of Arts degree or our accelerated Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. With a schedule that allows students to complete six full-length semesters plus a summer term, the BFA degree was designed to be completed in three years.

A dance-focused, blended program that allows captivating dancers to hone their craft while cultivating their vocal and acting skills. Taught by Broadway and Commercial dance choreographers and Broadway dance captains, MT Dance Performance is incredibly rigorous and physically demanding, with a balance of strong vocal and acting course loads. Add in Gymnastics, Acting for the Camera, and even a Voice-Over course for a well-rounded performer ready to work after graduation. This program is designed for those budding triple threats and those with very strong dance abilities.

FAQs

How many students do you accept?

We accept 18 students per class.

Can I audition for professional shows while in school?

Yes! In fact, we encourage our students to continuously audition for roles. The Conservatory’s main goal is to train employable artists.

How diverse is your program?

Our programs are extremely diverse. We accept students with varying ethnicities, religions, gender identities, sexualities, and disabilities into our programs. The Conservatory strives for our faculty to be as diverse as our student body.

What are your facilities like?

Our facilities include a variety of building types. From large dance studios to state-of-the-art recording studios, many of our facilities are used by professional arts businesses. The Conservatory also offers a large cyc wall for advertisement filming and our dormitories are within walking distance of all our buildings.

Are there any specific materials or equipment required for my major?

All requirements are communicated to students by Admissions during the enrollment process. The Director of Admissions meets with all Department Heads to ensure that all requirements are accurately communicated to prospective and incoming students.

My goal is to join a professional dance company. Is this program a good fit for me?

Our program is probably not ideal for you. Our conservatory programs and course curriculum focus on commercial television, film, and musical theatre.

How proficient must I be in dance before applying?

For acceptance into our Musical Theatre Dance Performance program, applicants must be highly proficient in at least one style of dance.

How proficient do I need to be in varying styles for acceptance into NoCo?

We affirm that artistic education must be unique to the artist. If you are a prima ballerina, we will not adjudicate you the same as a brilliant, commercial hip-hop dancer. We’re looking for talent, drive, and a deeper understanding of who you are as a person and a performer.

Are there performance opportunities?

Of course! Students in any semester are able and encouraged to audition for the MainStage musicals. We partner with the A1 Conference, allowing our students to audition for summer theatres across the country, annually.

If I don’t have a strong vocal background, will I still be considered?

This program track focuses on preparing students to book Broadway shows where dancers must sing. We strive to nurture and grow vocal ability, but students vary in skill. We seek students with existing vocal abilities and those with a desire to improve. Students will participate in vocal and dance assessments on the first day of class and will be placed in the appropriate level class.

What type of programs do you offer?

Currently, we offer four majors (MT Performance, MT Dance, Commercial Dance and Acting for Stage and Screen.) MT, MT Dance and Acting are offered as either a 2-year Associate of Arts degree or a 3-year Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. In an industry where opportunities for youthful artists are in high abundance, we believe our students are ready to join the workforce as soon as possible.

I can do it all. Should I apply for MT Dance or MT Performance?

We frequently allow students to enroll in courses outside their programs wherever possible. However, if you are a highly skilled dancer, we strongly recommend Musical Theatre Dance Performance over Musical Theatre Performance or Acting for Stage and Screen Performance.
