Submitted Materials - Not Required, But Recommended
We encourage all applicants to submit additional prerecorded materials for the Admissions team to have on file. If you choose to submit, please follow these guidelines:
▶ 1 or 2 song cuts (approximately 30 to 60 seconds in length, not to exceed 90 seconds each) - these may be the same songs you audition with or not.
▶ Contemporary styles (MT or pop/rock/etc) are preferred, but choose what you do best. You may choose to submit prescreens/self-tapes, recorded solo performances (recitals, productions, etc - but must be a clear video where you are easily identifiable.).
▶ You may also choose (but NOT required) to submit 1 monologue and/or dance video.
▶ If submitting a monologue, it should be contemporary material (1980s or later), and can be from a play, movie or TV show. It should be no longer than 90 seconds in length.
▶ If submitting a dance video, it may be a prescreen or rehearsal/group performance video, but you must be easily identifiable. Dance clip should be approximately 30-60 seconds in length.
There are three possible outcomes to the audition process:
▶ Admissions - The admissions team recommends you to the Presidential Admissions Committee. The Committee will review all recommended applicants and will make the final determination based on their own evaluation, admissions team/faculty recommendations, and the number of available spots. The Office of Admissions will then notify you directly of your acceptance.
▶ Waitlisted - The admissions team recommends you to the Presidential Admissions Committee. The Committee will review all recommended applicants and will make the final determination. You are placed on the waitlist because, although we would like to admit you to the school, we have a limited number of openings. Should a place become available, the Committee will re-evaluate the waitlist, making offers of admission as necessary. The waitlist is not ranked.
▶ Denial - Your application may be denied if it is incomplete by the March 1 deadline or you have not registered to audition by March 15. This is an automatic rejection. Your application may also be rejected by the admissions team or the Presidential Admissions Committee after your in-person audition. Applicants who have been rejected may not reapply within the same admissions cycle, but may reapply the following year.
Musical Theatre Performance
Musical Theatre Performance is an acting-based program with a foundation in Meisner technique supplemented by equal parts vocal and dance training. From core classes like Acting Styles, Jazz, and Audition Technique to unique offerings like Acting for the Camera and Harmonies & Vocal Styles, our focus is training well-rounded performers who are ready to enter today's industry. Our program is crafted specifically for those seeking to play principal roles in musicals and plays as well as pursuing a career in TV/film.
For more detailed information about the program, please visit the Musical Theatre Performance Webpage
We typically accept 16 students per year into the MT Performance major.
Prescreening
Please note that the Conservatory DOES NOT REQUIRE PRESCREENS. We believe in the power of a live audition for a live art form, and therefore we give every applicant the opportunity to audition in person. That being said, we encourage you to submit prerecorded materials with your application for the Admissions team to have on file. Once we receive your application, the Office of Admissions will reach out to schedule your in-person audition based on the preference chosen on your applications.
Auditioning For NoCo
These guidelines may continue to evolve and are subject to change. Any and all updates will be posted on this page as we near audition dates.
Audition Materials
Applicants are asked to prepare two songs, no longer than 90 seconds each (at least one should be contemporary musical theatre, the other selection may also be MT or may be pop/rock/etc). We provide live accompaniment for all on-campus auditions and for many of our regional auditions, but any student attending a regional audition should have a pre-recorded accompaniment on hand in case. The audition panel may ask for additional prepared material that you may have in your book. We do NOT require a monologue for in-person auditions.
Audition Scheduling
You must register for and attend one of the scheduled in-person auditions. After submitting your application, you will receive an email with instructions on how to register for your in-person auditions (some locations may not require additional registration.) Auditions are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Students who have submitted an application but not scheduled an audition by March 15 will be automatically rejected.
Callbacks
Students that the Admissions team would like to see again may receive a callback request. All callbacks will be scheduled directly with the student
